SUNDAY – Let’s get acquainted! Whether you drive in or fly and we meet you in the ranch van, you are welcome! We’ll visit with a glass of lemonade & cookies and then show you to your home for the week. After a fantastic dinner, we’ll have an orientation mixer by the trout ponds to discuss the Ranch and your interests for the week. Then we’ll head to the barn to meet the horses and let the fun begin!
MONDAY – Get up at 6:30 am and watch the horses being “wrangled” in from the mountain-side, OR sleep until breakfast is served at 8:00. Head up to the barn and riding arena at 9:00 and take part in our western horsemanship session and orientation ride. Children’s Program kicks into high gear. We’ll acquaint you with your horse, and you’ll have time to become comfortable with your new friend. After lunch, an afternoon ride leisurely takes in the spectacular sights and sounds of the Sun River Canyon and Wagner Basin. Evening presentation by local naturalist.
TUESDAY – The horseback riding for the day will begin with some additional instruction before heading out on some ½ day rides to Mortimer Vista and Big George Pass. Fly-fishing demonstration/lesson at the ranch trout ponds followed by a fishing excursion on the Sun River or Gibson Lake. Barbeque cook-out followed by evening campfire. Get ready for smore’s.
WEDNESDAY – Experience riding in the Rockies, Montana style taking our lunch with us and visiting the neighboring valleys and mountain passes! Or you may prefer working with a Wrangler in the arena to perfect your skills. Fishermen grab a sack lunch and head to the water. Evening entertainment by local cowboy poet and singers. Yippekiyai!
THURSDAY – See the famous Sun River Game Range and Sawtooth Mountain by horseback and see why this is called the “Big Sky Country”. Ride down to the river where cowboy steaks are grilling over a campfire – enjoy this dinner taking in the sights and sounds of the Sun River.
FRIDAY – Choices abound with a morning ranch rodeo/gymkhana (horse games) followed by an awesome “wide open prairie ride” after lunch. Mortimer / Blacktail / Big George valley loop ride or Sun River Prairie all day rides for those adults wanting to really get out and explore. There will be stories to tell at dinner tonight! Wrap up the evening dancing to sweet country sounds in the lodge.
SATURDAY – Enjoy homemade cinnamon rolls with the breakfast buffet and snap those last minute pictures. Plan a reunion with the other guests you’ve met and sign the ranch guest book with highlights of your week. We hate to say good-bye….we hope our trails cross again!
*Variations of the itinerary are possible with other activities such as hiking, different fishing options, swimming, simple mountain climbing, wildlife watching, canyon interpretive tours…. The week is yours to decide – do as much or as little as you like. Each day is your adventure!
