Horseback Riding

The JJJ Ranch is home to 70 head of well- loved horses and mules. Guests consistently comment on the high quality of our quarter horses and riding program. The horses, riding program and safety are our focus, and care is taken to match ability and personality. Your horse is your friend for the week. Our high Wrangler-to-Guest ratio ensures plenty of individual attention with many different options for beginners to the experienced rider. Horseback riding is a physical activity and anyone in average shape can learn to ride. Our goal is to build confidence in you as a rider so you will comfortably enjoy the beauty of the area.

Riding activities throughout the week are designed to your level and interests. Morning and afternoon rides, as well as all day adventures take you from flower-strewn meadows to the mountain high country. This unspoiled location has dramatic changes in scenery. There are more trails surrounding the JJJ Ranch than you can experience in one visit. You may want to admire the scenery from a walk, or feel more adventurous to lope, where terrain allows. Advanced riders are easily accommodated. Many guests enjoy time in the arena with a Wrangler to perfect riding skills, or assisting with tacking their horse.

We believe that quality is more important than quantity so rides are smaller, six or less guests, and time is given to focus on individual interests. We encourage riding abreast whenever possible. This takes some effort on the part of the rider to properly cue the horse and to be a participant, not just a passenger.

Certified by the Dude Rancher's Association for horse safety and adaptive first aid for the trail.

“What a wonderful week! Kate rode a horse for the first time, Michele loved loping and Peter and I mostly remembered how to ride from thirty years ago. The mountains and the gulches were stunning. Kate loved all of her Wrangler Counselors and new friends. Michele fit right in with the other kids. This was our best vacation ever.”
