the mountains are calling you

Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the miles of scenic trails surrounding the ranch. Our off the beaten path location allows for endless hiking opportunities. The trails are filled with abundant wildflowers, beautiful views and watchable wildlife.  Many guests like to be shown the trails and take a map, but guided hikes are also available.

Exhilaration and a sense of accomplishment will be yours when you scramble up Mortimer peak and gaze across the valley of Mortimer Gulch to the peaks across Gibson Lake. The kitchen will gladly provide you with a hearty packed lunch if you would like to be out for the day.

The Sun River canyon and surrounding area is rich in geology and Indian artifacts; in fact many universities take specific field trips here to study the rock formations. You may enjoy an interpretive tour of the canyon, or in June or July a ride in the pontoon boat up Gibson Lake to hike back into the Bob Marshall Wilderness for the day.
