So Many activities during your Montana Ranch Vacation
- Horseback riding is the main feature of the Ranch. Our terrain is diverse and stunning, where you ride through pristine wilderness, high mountain tops, or spend a day on the open prairie. Morning, afternoon, or all-day rides, or work with a wrangler in the arena. Suited to all experience levels.
- Fly-fishing with instruction begins on our stocked trout pond, then moves to the Sun River. Fishing is optimal from late June to early August.
- Guided or self-guided hiking, simple mountain climbing to Mortimer Peak – look for wildlife.
- Outstanding Kid’s program – boredom is not an issue!
- Trap shooting – After returning from the ride, trade your horse in for a shotgun and work on your aim. Participants using shotguns will attempt to shoot clay targets flung into the air before they hit the ground. (Minimum age to participate is 12).
- Archery – we’ll teach you how to use a bow and hit a target.
- Team cattle penning – join your team to try to separate “your cows”, it’s not as easy as it looks!
- Roping – learn how to swing a rope.
- Spend time in the arena with a Wrangler working on horsemanship skills.
- Non-technical mountain climbing to Mortimer Peak. Early in the summer, take a boat ride up Gibson Lake.
- Swim in the lake, soak and relax in the hot tub amongst mountain beauty.
- Wildlife watching, wildflowers, mountain birding.
- Evening campfires, storytelling, song, and dance.
- Horseshoes, volleyball, basketball, corn hole or kick back and relax with a good book in a lounge chair on the deck.
Whatever you choose at this Montana dude ranch, you’ll enjoy each day at the Triple J. Daylight lasts until bedtime in the summer, which allows evenings to inspire campfires with song, cowboy poetry, and tall-tale telling! Or you may enjoy card games, dancing, or just relaxing and reminiscing about the day’s activities.
Ranch Week Itinerary
Dust off your boots for a taste of the real West!
Sunday
WELCOME TO THE RANCH! Whether you drove or flew in (and we picked you up in the ranch van), we’re thrilled to have you here. Let’s get to know each other over lemonade and homemade cookies at the Lodge. Meet by the trout ponds before dinner, and we’ll host an orientation mixer with guests and staff and discuss the week’s activities and your interests. After a fantastic barbecue cookout, it’s off to the barn to meet the horses and officially kick off the fun!
monday
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at 8:00. At 9:00, head to the barn and riding arena for a western horsemanship session and orientation ride (about 1–1.5 hours). You’ll get acquainted with your horse and settle in with your new four-legged friend. Kids can dive into the action-packed kids’ program. After lunch, enjoy a leisurely afternoon ride through the stunning sights of Mortimer Gulch. Trap shooting option in the late afternoon. End the day with a delicious dinner, followed by an evening campfire with the Triple J crew.
